Cultivating Academic Excellence from K-8th

Our institution implements a rigorous, standards-aligned curriculum that facilitates intellectual growth, character development, and optimized learning outcomes for students across K-8th.

The tradition of Catholic education goes all the way back to the Edict of Milan, where noble families would send their children to monasteries to be educated by monks in the various fields of knowledge. That tradition continued to develop and by the time of the creation of the printing press in the 1400s, more formalized parish schools began to emerge across Europe. St Michael’s Academy is proud to be a part of this long standing tradition within the Catholic Church.

At St Michael’s Academy, we provide both spiritual and intellectual formation for our students. As Socrates notes in the Republic, the aim of education is not simply to learn new information, but is ultimately about reorienting the soul towards God. In this spirit, St Michael’s Academy understands education as something which is ordered toward knowing, loving, and serving God.

For this reason, we place strong emphasis on spiritual formation alongside a rigorous academic curriculum. This begins with a vibrant sacramental life, in which students are encouraged to participate regularly in the Sacrament of Confession, attend Holy Mass daily, and engage frequently with the clergy.

Spiritual formation, however, is not separate from intellectual life but integrated throughout the classroom experience. Following the insight of St. Thomas Aquinas that God may be known through the natural order as the cause of His effects, we affirm that human beings, as rational creatures, flourish when they are fully engaged in the exercise of reason both in practical and speculative activity

For this reason, we emphasize the harmony of faith and reason in every subject area, fostering an education that develops the whole person. Our aim is to help each student grow not only in academic excellence, but also in virtue, wisdom, and holiness.
